The Groupe URD has developped internally a software solution to centralize and tag its contacts in a Zimbra groupware. Contacts are send by the the organisation members from their Thunderbird address books through the Zindus plugin to their own Zimbra account. The software solution then gather all the new contacts from each Zimbra account into a separate one, and use the comments leave by the organization members in each of the contact file to tag the contacts.

The code has been developed using Shell scripts under the GPL licence. But it has been fully completed and documented yet. So it cannot be published and shared back to the community.
Moreover, after developing this code, it has been discovered that the use of SOAP commands on the basis of PHP library was actually much more efficient and powerful solution than Shell scripts.

The goal of this mission consists therefore in:
- migrating the code from Shell scripts to SOAP service call in PHP
- strengthening and documenting the code in order to publish it.

One week full-time work should be more than enough to do the job.

Net Impact (www.netimpact.org) is seeking a tech-savvy volunteer for an exciting new project to build and customize a PHP-based calendar script to be used by our 20,000 member network. Net Impact is an international nonprofit organization with a mission to inspire, educate, and equip individuals to use the power of business to create a more socially and environmentally sustainable world.

We are looking to build a calendar much like the PHP ICalendar (http://phpicalendar.net/). We would like to build in functionality to filter the calendar based on location of the event and a few other variables. Additionally, we would like to integrate social media sharing options for each event posting as well as syndication capabilities.

Since Net Impact lacks sufficient technological and budget capacity to complete this project, your efforts will make a significant impact for our organization and our members and further Net Impact’s mission to transform business. Upon completion of the project you will be recognized as a Net Impact volunteer on our Partners page.

CMAP is looking for a Drupal developer, or PHP/MySQL developer to install modules on our current Drupal web site.

A national collective open media project has created these tools/modules for community media centers like ours over the past year. We are now ready to install and use the reservation modules and update our web site.

We are a small non-profit in rural California that helps the community have access to free media tools and equipment, the Internet and media literacy training, as well as free airing of local content on our four cable television channels.

With implementation of this new innovative technology toolkit, CMAP is poised to help more local residents access the power of the media. The volunteer will join other volunteers, including a CTC Vista member, to install, test and train members, staff and volunteers to make the best use of technology efficiencies. Collaboration between CMAP and other media centers is imminent.

Knowledge of Drupal, and/or PHP/MySQL is required; work with community media and/or non-profit organizations is a plus.

We have an exciting proposition on this June's ballot, the California Fair Elections Act, that would address the outrageous amounts of money in politics by getting politicians out of the fundraising game.

The campaign's website, http://www.YesFairElections.org, is implemented with a mix of CiviCRM in Drupal and custom PHP code that interfaces with it. We need a Drupal or CiviCRM developer volunteer to help extend the site's tools to empower activists to contact enough voters to help pass this groundbreaking proposition.

Please also reply if you have strong PHP/MySQL/html skills and are willing to dig into extending them to Drupal and CiviCRM.

Volunteer will be supported by the programmer who developed the website and also the chair of the statewide campaign.

Are you a PHP/MySql developer with a little extra time in April?

Statement Arts is launching a new project: A Single Drop of Water, and we need someone to write a set of file upload scripts for uploading photographic images.

A Single Drop of Water is an environmental awareness project that will use the arts, specifically photography, to document the journey of water. Specifically we are looking for a PHP developer who can provide scripts to do the following:

- upload a single image and caption, save the image and create a thumbnail version
- upload a series of five images and captions, save the images and create thumbnails

Hug It Forward is a San Diego-based non-profit. We are looking for a PHP expert to work on our web site www.hugitforward.com. This is an unpaid position for someone who is passionate about changing the world and fanatical about PHP.

Our web site provides a database for users to track their hugs on a Google Map as the hugs travel around the world. We hired some programmers to build the site, and now we are looking for someone to fix bugs, refine the user interface, develop new features and to maintain the site on an ongoing basis.

A key criterion for this job is that you must be available and responsive, able to implement minor amendments as soon as we get feedback from users and phone you. Central to our philosophy is the principle that our site must evolve based on feedback from our community of users – YOU will be central to making that happen.

The site was developed using the Symfony PHP framework, and experience with Symfony or a similar web application framework is essential to this role. Design skills would be a bonus but are not necessary.

Some tasks we would ask you to start work on immediately include:
• Fixing bugs in the hug-tracking system
• Adding a simple slideshow to the front page of our site
• Adding the OpenInviter plugin
• Integrating a Wordpress blog into our site
• Integrating Facebook Connect features into our site

ABOUT HUG IT FORWARD:

We started Hug It Forward to help bring people across the world together and to make the world a better place. There is a change in consciousness taking place in the world right now and we want to be part of a social movement spreading opportunity, equality and universal love.

Hug It Forward blends intangible change with tangible change globally with one goal, uniting people as one. The intangible change is provided through the scientifically proven power of hugs. The tangible change is provided by empowering communities to unite by working together to towards a common goal. The goal is to provide schools built out of wasted trash bottles called "bottle schools" (see video here: www.hugitforward.com).

100% of donations made to Hug It Forward are spent on the ground in the communities where bottle schools are built – no money is taken for overhead or salaries. This way, we can build a school for as little as $6,000. We think all nonprofits should be run this way.

Following recent international media coverage, we have formed new partnerships that promise both funding for bottle schools projects and interest in our cause. Construction of our next two bottle schools begins next month.

• Able to work as part of a virtual team - you may not ever meet your team mates in person as they may be scattered across a couple of continents and timezones. Knowledge of how to use email, Skype and GTalk IM and Google Docs essential for collaboration purposes.

• Has a sense of humour and able to see and work towards the big picture with optimism and a can-do attitude - this is essential! Acolytes of Eeyore are banned!
• Believes in our mission to end Violence Against Women worldwide.
• Reliable and communicates well with team members.
• Stay on through the pixel unveiling to trouble shoot any problems - the project is slated to end at the end of 2010 (Optional)

What you get in return:

We would be happy to:

• Provide references for individual volunteers putting in good work

• If it is part of their internship module, we'd be happy to fill in assessment sheets too. We have been incorporated as a non-profit organisation and are currently well on our way to 501 (c) 3 status.

• If the team is part of a company providing this as a pro bono service to us, we're happy to name them as a partner and give them due brand recognition on our website.

Would you be interested in spending some time each week developing a new organization? Are you interested in helping save our environment? How about providing free or extremely inexpensive training to our community? You think you can talk businesses into donating computer hardware our non-profit organization?

Maybe you have some spare time each day and have access to the internet to do research, post ads or just hang out on our community portal!

We're looking for volunteer positions to be filled to work on short term projects. Some projects are as easy as just talking to other people. Some are as complicated as writing PHP code or negotiating deals with businesses.

There's another meeting coming up shortly and we're interested in hearing your ideas!

Right now, our meetings are held right in Providence and we're looking to find a base of volunteers that we'd like to eventually PAY a salary to.

Interested?
