FSD is currently recruiting a team of volunteer web developers to work closely with the Communications Department and Board of Directors to program FSD's new website. Specifically, FSD needs volunteers with the following skill sets:


Senior Web Developer – Candidate must be proficient in HTML 4/5, CSS
2/3, Javascript, AJAX and related best practices for production of a
highly-interactive and dynamic website. This position does not involve
developing creative assets, page layouts, wireframes, etc. However,
candidate must have experience working with standard Adobe software and
file formats. Experience developing templates for content management
systems, especially Drupal, is preferred.

PHP/Drupal Developer – Candidate must be proficient in developing
highly-interactive and dynamic websites using the Drupal 6 content
management system. Responsibilities shall include: collaborating with
Web Developer and Web Designer to produce a custom theme and customize
PHP templates for Drupal; installing, configuring and customizing
various Drupal modules to meet functionality requirements; designing and
implementing content views. An ideal candidate would also be proficient
in PHP programming, database design and SQL, and Drupal module development.

We have an exciting proposition on this June's ballot, the California Fair Elections Act, that would address the outrageous amounts of money in politics by getting politicians out of the fundraising game.

The campaign's website, http://www.YesFairElections.org, is implemented with a mix of CiviCRM in Drupal and custom PHP code that interfaces with it. We need a Drupal or CiviCRM developer volunteer to help extend the site's tools to empower activists to contact enough voters to help pass this groundbreaking proposition.

Please also reply if you have strong PHP/MySQL/html skills and are willing to dig into extending them to Drupal and CiviCRM.

Volunteer will be supported by the programmer who developed the website and also the chair of the statewide campaign.

Statement Arts is launching a new project: A Single Drop of Water, and we need someone to write a set of file upload scripts for uploading photographic images.

A Single Drop of Water is an environmental awareness project that will use the arts, specifically photography, to document the journey of water. Our goal is to raise awareness about water, the importance of this precious resource, water pollution, and water scarcity in some communities. The project will provide photographers with a platform for sharing their images and stories. The project will also provide inspiration to photographers with access to particularly underprivileged areas, where clean water is scarce, to document and share this scarcity in an artistic medium.

Specifically we are looking for a PHP developer who can provide scripts to do the following:

- upload a single image and caption, save the image and create a thumbnail version
- upload a series of five images and captions, save the images and create thumbnails
- Display the image(s) on an upload confirmation page.

Hug It Forward is a San Diego-based non-profit. We are looking for a PHP expert to work on our web site www.hugitforward.com. This is an unpaid position for someone who is passionate about changing the world and fanatical about PHP.

Our web site provides a database for users to track their hugs on a Google Map as the hugs travel around the world. We hired some programmers to build the site, and now we are looking for someone to fix bugs, refine the user interface, develop new features and to maintain the site on an ongoing basis.

A key criterion for this job is that you must be available and responsive, able to implement minor amendments as soon as we get feedback from users and phone you. Central to our philosophy is the principle that our site must evolve based on feedback from our community of users – YOU will be central to making that happen.

The site was developed using the Symfony PHP framework, and experience with Symfony or a similar web application framework is essential to this role. Design skills would be a bonus but are not necessary.

Some tasks we would ask you to start work on immediately include:
• Fixing bugs in the hug-tracking system
• Adding a simple slideshow to the front page of our site
• Adding the OpenInviter plugin
• Integrating a Wordpress blog into our site
• Integrating Facebook Connect features into our site

100% of donations made to Hug It Forward are spent on the ground in the communities where bottle schools are built – no money is taken for overhead or salaries. This way, we can build a school for as little as $6,000. We think all nonprofits should be run this way.

Following recent international media coverage, we have formed new partnerships that promise both funding for bottle schools projects and interest in our cause. Construction of our next two bottle schools begins next month.

The Pixel Project (http://www.thepixelproject.net), an innovative global Web 2.0 campaign to end Violence Against Women is looking for 3 to 4 experienced, creative and fast-working software programmers fluent in PHP/MySQL and/or Java languages and online security for websites and servers to join us our global virtual volunteer team.

The Pixel Project was a semi-finalist in Echoing Green’s (http://www.echoinggreen.org) search for their Social Enterprise Class of 2010. We are essentially in start-up mode and it's a chance for anyone joining now to get in on the ground floor in a massive effort to mainstream this cause.

We currently have volunteers spread over 4 continents, 12 timezones and over 10 cities. Our mission is to get men and women working together to end Violence Against Women and to take the cause and organisations working on the issue into the 21st century through innovative and viral social media campaigns mixed in with popular culture and a vibrant, forward-looking approach that mixes collaboration, inclusiveness, inventiveness and a sense of humour.

You will be joining a close-knit and devoted group of volunteers and pro bono professionals with a wicked sense of humour and who work tirelessly to get the job done.


We are looking for 3 - 4 programmers who can help us with the following:

• Design the programme for a pixel-by-pixel reveal of a hidden online picture (including database, connections with selected online payment processing provider etc) - this is at the core of our online fundraising gambit.
• Link the pixel reveal programme with our online payment system to automate the pixel reveal.
• Ensure the security of The Pixel Project’s website, especially during the Pixel Reveal fundraiser
• Advise on the reveal strategy and what's the best and most elegant way to showcase the pixels being bought etc.
• Programme testing
• Be able to identify and to programme/build anything else the project requires online including:
o Automating any key processes
o Building and maintaining databases
o Creating applications for smartphones
o Music downloading application linked to payment
o Easy uploading application for companies to upload logos according to number of pixels bought for the mirror puzzle site.

Requirements:

• Put in at 5 or more hours per week volunteering on this as part of an international team
• Is fluent in PHP/MySQL/Java languages
• Start volunteering immediately
• Able to work in a team to deliver the main Pixel Reveal programme and all other required programmes by 15 September 2010.
• Would like to be a part of a groundbreaking global Violence Against Women cause that is partnered with UNIFEM's "Say NO" campaign and White Ribbon.
• Able to work as part of a virtual team - you may not ever meet your team mates in person as they may be scattered across a couple of continents and timezones. Knowledge of how to use email, Skype and GTalk IM and Google Docs essential for collaboration purposes.
• Works fast and is flexible - we are essentially a start-up and there's lots of opportunities etc that we have to grab at a moment's notice to move us forward!
• Good at keeping to deadlines
• Good at sorting out ad hoc requests.
• Has a sense of humour and able to see and work towards the big picture with optimism and a can-do attitude - this is essential! Acolytes of Eeyore are banned!
• Believes in our mission to end Violence Against Women worldwide.
• Reliable and communicates well with team members.
• Stay on through the pixel unveiling to trouble shoot any problems - the project is slated to end at the end of 2010 (Optional)
